I received a preview copy of “Every Single Secret” to read and review as part of Ms。 Dodd’s Review Club。 While I generally enjoy reading almost anything， I had a hard time staying engaged with “Every Single Secret。” It was too much fantasy and not much thriller。 The lead characters meet when leading lady Rowan mistakes leading man Joe for an assassin that she hired for a client。 Rowan is supposed to be street-savvy， living a life in hiding， yet she lets him into her home and bed without a second I received a preview copy of “Every Single Secret” to read and review as part of Ms。 Dodd’s Review Club。 While I generally enjoy reading almost anything， I had a hard time staying engaged with “Every Single Secret。” It was too much fantasy and not much thriller。 The lead characters meet when leading lady Rowan mistakes leading man Joe for an assassin that she hired for a client。 Rowan is supposed to be street-savvy， living a life in hiding， yet she lets him into her home and bed without a second thought。 After the sexcapades， she finds out Joe isn’t who she thought he was when he blackmails her into going with him to the private island of the man who killed her mother， kidnapped and tortured her father， and is the reason she is living in hiding。 The villain， Torval， is supposed to be a powerful mob-type boss but doesn’t live up to the expectations of being cold， calculating， and emotionless。 His character is flighty， indecisive， and so overdone that he is a cartoon， like Rocky from Looney Tunes。 Torval is more laughable than sinister， with the mental focus of a toddler。 He is easily manipulated by his wife and mistress， who are in an ongoing battle to see who will be his puppet-master。 As the plot unfolds， the characters become more outlandish and laughable。 The good is that the plot moves quickly and provides unexpected twists。 On the other hand， I was mentally rolling my eyes about every third paragraph and discovering how little I cared about any of the characters， including the cross-over ones from the Gothic novels。 For an easy read with some action， “Every Single Secret” does its job。 However， if looking for a real thriller with character development and a plot to keep you guessing， “Every Single Secret” falls rather flat。 。。。more

actionDodd just keeps getting better。 I like all her heroines， and most of her flawed heroes。 The vignette of Gothic city was fun， but this was rather intense with serious villains。 I loved that it was the IRS agency involved too - makes total sense， but also provided very human moments。 Excellent character development of even secondary characters。 Details that I wasn’t sure why were needed but provided added depth : bare feet， china dragon， champagne flutes， sea storms， and cooking chicken。 And actionDodd just keeps getting better。 I like all her heroines， and most of her flawed heroes。 The vignette of Gothic city was fun， but this was rather intense with serious villains。 I loved that it was the IRS agency involved too - makes total sense， but also provided very human moments。 Excellent character development of even secondary characters。 Details that I wasn’t sure why were needed but provided added depth : bare feet， china dragon， champagne flutes， sea storms， and cooking chicken。 And healing - physical and psychological， emotional and earthy。 With a bit of diabolical thrown in。 There are many fun moments - she has a great sense of humor and wordplay。 A great read， a fast read， a beach read， a page turner with sleep loss。 。。。more

Dodd’s town of Gothic is one of my favorite places to visit。 These characters stand alone， but it is fun to catch up with some old friends。 There are lots of twists and turns， drama， and violence， so be prepared。 A must read for anyone looking for a little hope that good will triumph over evil。

Christina Dodd is a master of the plot twist and Every Single Secret is littered with them， beginning with a doozy in Chapter One。 It sets the tone for this suspense thriller that had me on the edge of my seat for the entire book。 Who to trust？ Who not to trust？ What's the truth？ What's not？ And when the truths begin to surface？ Yikes！ How could things get any crazier than this？ Well， this is Christina Dodd and her creative imagination is off the charts。 There's still more to come， right up unti Christina Dodd is a master of the plot twist and Every Single Secret is littered with them， beginning with a doozy in Chapter One。 It sets the tone for this suspense thriller that had me on the edge of my seat for the entire book。 Who to trust？ Who not to trust？ What's the truth？ What's not？ And when the truths begin to surface？ Yikes！ How could things get any crazier than this？ Well， this is Christina Dodd and her creative imagination is off the charts。 There's still more to come， right up until the very end which， for me， came around 3:15 AM。 I challenge you to put this book down before you finish because， for me， that was just not going to happen。Rowan and Joe are multi-faceted characters who drew me in with their secrets and their hidden layers。 Both are well developed， intriguing， and practically begged me to be in their corner。 But can they be trusted？ They're the primary focus of this book but by no means the only characters with significant roles。 Dodd surrounds them with a secondary cast that is anything but wallpaper， giving depth and texture to several secondary characters who generate doubt， conflict， danger， poignant emotion， unlikely support， and offbeat humor。 Even in the most dire of circumstances， Dodd has the ability to sneak in her quirky humor。。。which I love。 Every Single Secret is going to my Dodd keeper shelf （yes， she has enough keepers to warrant her own shelf） where I'll no doubt revisit it when I'm in the mood for twisty suspense， wry wit， and characters who pull me in and refuse to let go。 If that's your jam， I highly recommend you pick up a copy of Every Single Secret。 *ARC received from publisher。Fair and unbiased review。 。。。more
